From Which I Grow: A Postcard Series
From Which I Grow is a series of postcards I created based off of five of my childhood homes. At the age of twelve I lost my mom, and for several years I hopped from home to home staying for no more than nine months at a time. Though I captured only five of the homes I lived in, today I currently live in my ninth home. Someday I would like to revisit this project and continue the sequence. I especially enjoyed playing with the symbolic aspects of my life and these homes. By using color to express the mood I really created an emotional response to what was once my reality. Through exposing myself and my past, I brought out a greater vulnerability in my work. This was featured in the 2018 “Visions: A Juried Honors Exhibition” at Fitchburg State University.
